It is the longest festival in the Chinese calendar. For those of you who celebrate Chinese New Year, the year of the horse, you must prepare several things to make your celebration feel memorable and fun. Decorating the room with the feel of a typical Chinese New Year can be one of your preparations. These are some tips for Chinese New Year home decorations:

1. Use red or gold ornaments
Chinese New Year is always associated with red and gold colors because both are believed to be a symbol of good luck, prosperity, and happiness. Begin decorating your room by using red or gold ornaments, such as tablecloths, curtains, rugs, carpets, ceramic ornaments, and others.

2. Add various flowers to beautify the room
There is no doubt that flower decorations can beautify a room. In Chinese tradition, flower is symbolized as a new life. Chrysanthemums which extend the life or peach blossoms which bring good luck can be your preferred alternative.

3. Hang red lanterns
To enliven the Lunar New Year, Chinese people usually hang red lanterns which symbolize happiness. Usually the lanterns are made of thin red paper which is made in various shapes with lamps. You can decorate lanterns with various ornaments to make it look more vibrant. The tradition to lit on the lanterns is so famous so that there is a separate event where people are free to be creative with their lanterns. The event is then called Lantern Festival.

According to the Chinese calendar, 2014 is the year of the horse which is believed to symbolize nobility, speed, agility, and endurance. You can decorate your house with a horse sculpture or painting with Chinese writings. If you are creative, you can also make it with paper or cloth as a material.

5. Create a ‘Money Tree’
Other typical attractive decoration for the celebration of Chinese New Year is the “money tree”. You can use a faux tree, and then hang some chocolate coins and red packets at the ends of branches using thread.

6. Provide red and gold candles and lunar foods
To celebrate the Chinese New Year, you should make sure that you prepare the typical Lunar foods, such as oranges, sweets, cakes, and others. Providing a variety of typical foods for Chinese New Year will also be a symbol of good hope in the upcoming year.
